Military veteran

John Henry Barton, 68, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017.

He was born Dec. 14, 1948, in Raymondville, son of Thomas Sr. and Zelma Bizwell Barton. He and Mona Hobson were married June 7, 1969, in Raymondville.

He was the ninth of 10 children.

He served during the Vietnam War from 1970-’72. He earned many commendations, including The Bronze Star Medal and The Army Commendation Medal.

He worked as a tree trimmer for more than 30 years under the Shade Tree Service Company.

He loved to hunt and fish. He loved his family and friends, especially his grandson, Gabriel.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings, Coleen Barton, Dewayne Barton, Thomas Barton, Maxine Paris and Novella Gray.

Survivors include his wife, Mona; a son, Duane; a grandson; four siblings, Dorothy Schott, Cornelia Ferguson, William Barton and Dewey Barton; and many other family members and friends.

Services were Saturday, Dec. 2, at Fox Funeral Home with Pastor Everett Perkins officiating.
