The Northeast Industrial Park is situated off North U.S. 63 east of the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Fairgrounds.

The former economic director of the City of Houston will assist on manufacturing plant project near the North U.S. 63 fairgrounds, City Administrator Tona Bowen announced at a city council meeting on Tuesday.

Bowen said Ron Reed will consult on the project that would include construction of a building east of the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Fairgrounds. She noted Reed had originally worked on the project and his knowledge on the effort would help move the project forward.

Reed offered to volunteer, Bowen said, but she plans to pay him a stipend.

Reed was the city’s economic development head beginning in 1999 until he resigned at a council meeting in January 2016. The office has been vacant since then. The council hopes to hire a replacement soon.

“We appreciate his willingness to help out,” said Mayor Don Tottingham.

On the drawing board is construction of an industry building to attract a potential employer that would be financed partially by a federal Economic Development Administration grant.
