Revenue from the City of Houston's sales tax was up in Houston in the latest distribution, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue.

Sales tax collections reported by retailers in Texas County were nearly unchanged last year compared to 2016, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue.

The county collects three half-cent taxes. Each totaled nearly $1.05 million, which was down just $9,000 each from 2016.

The sales taxes pay for repayment of debt on the county justice center, maintenance and county operation, and it is the primary funding source in the county.

Shoppers also pay a three-eighths cent sales tax to operate Texas County Emergency Services, the 911 system. For the year $784,612 was collected. That’s down $5,448 from the prior year.
