The following are excerpts from reports generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:
•A deputy responded just after midnight Feb. 25 to a report of a party with loud music at a residence at the end of Barry Lane at Houston. The officer was unable to locate a party and didn’t hear any music.
•A deputy responded on Feb. 24 to a report of dogs at large at a Strawberry Road residence at Houston.
The officer made contact with an 82-year-old man who lives there who stated a 46-year-old neighbor man’s dogs kept coming onto his property and eating his dog’s food and defecating. The officer made contact with the neighbor and advised him to keep his dogs up.
•A deputy on Feb. 16 investigated a report of theft at a Highway E residence at Houston.
The officer spoke with a 33-year-old man who was in Wyoming at the time who stated he had called Aaron’s Rental to pick up some furniture, and had then been advised it wasn’t in the residence.
The man said a 33-year-old man was house sitting for him. The officer reported that the house sitter is a probation absconder and has not been located.
•A 66-year-old Bucyrus man reported a burglary Feb. 22 at his Crane Drive residence.
The man told an investigating deputy that a 42-year-old Bucyrus man had been doing odd jobs for him and had stolen about 35 gallons of gasoline from his shop building. He said seven five-gallons cans in the building had been full and were empty.
The suspect’s probation and parole officer was contacted.
•A deputy on Feb. 23 investigated a report of starving cattle at a Highway Z property at Houston.
Upon arrival, the officer observed one dead down and many that looked malnourished, and photographs were taken. The officer returned to the sheriff’s office and spoke with a state veterinarian who said the cattle reportedly belonged to a 21-year-old man.
The deputy spoke to the cattle owner and he stated the animals were from Montana and he had been feeding them but they hadn’t acclimated yet. The officer reported observing a hay feeder in the field, but it had dead weeds in it and there was no apparent hay for the cattle anywhere in the field.
A report was sent to the county prosecutor.
•A deputy responded on Feb. 23 to a report of a syringe in the access roadway at the Raymondville Fairgrounds. The officer located the item and it was properly disposed.
•A deputy on Feb. 20 investigated a report of a burglary at a cabin on Sargent Road at Willow Springs.
The officer made contact with a woman (of unreported age) who owns the cabin, and she stated someone had broken in through a window by the front door and stolen several items. The woman said nobody lives there and no one had been there since mid-January.
She said she would attempt to determine what was swiped and contact authorities again.
