The following are excerpts from reports generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:
•A deputy responded on Feb. 9 to a report of a burglary and property dispute at an old store building on Highway H at Elk Creek.
A 47-year-old man told the officer he owns the building and found a 56-year-old Cabool man and 46-year-old Licking woman inside. The man said that when he confronted them, the man threatened him with a knife.
The officer made contact with the suspect and he said he was purchasing the property but no money had yet changed hands. He also denied that he had pulled out a knife, but stated he had verbally threatened the property owner.
The deputy told the suspect to stay away from the property until he had valid proof off ownership.
•A deputy responded on Feb. 10 to a report of theft at a Highway 17 residence at Success.
A 27-year-old woman who lives there told the officer a John Deere lawn tractor and tiller with a total value of $1,150 had been swiped. The woman named her 32-year-old former boyfriend as a suspect.
•A deputy investigated a marital property dispute on Feb. 9.
A 43-year-old woman told the officer her estranged husband lives in Villa Ridge, and had taken a Buick Lacrosse she had been driving from the Houston Schools parking lot. The woman also stated the locks had been changed on the Highway 32 home she was living in.
The woman said her attorney had advised her to complete a statement with the TCSD so it would be on record.
•A 79-year-old Summersville man reported on Feb. 1 that a miter saw valued at $270 and a circular saw valued at $125 had been stolen from a Highway 17 residence he owns. Investigation continues.
•A woman reported on Feb. 8 that she had found two bags of trash and a syringe dumped on Nevill Road at Cabool, and that the syringe had a name on it.
An investigating deputy observed that the syringe had wording on it related to worming an animal. The trash and syringe were taken to the Cabool Police Department and placed in a dumpster.
•On Feb. 12, a pair of deputies responded to a report that three Texas County Jail corrections officers were fighting with an 18-year-old inmate in the jail’s padded room.
Upon arrival at the jail, the officers observed that jail staff had the suspect restrained and lying face down on the floor, and the handcuffs were being put on him. Investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly hit one jailer in the face twice and kicked another in the ribs once.
Photographs were taken of injuries sustained by the jailer struck in the face. A probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor seeking assault charges against the suspect.
