A Houston City Council committee endorsed Monday beginning discussions to hire a police officer who would be assigned primarily to work with the Houston School District beginning during the next school year.
City Administrator Tona Bowen said the city’s police committee met Monday following a council meeting to discuss the matter. A full report is expected to be presented to the council.
Dr. Allen Moss, superintendent of the Houston School District, said last week he was interested in partnering with the city to bring an officer to campus who could work days and big events and would be available to the city for summers and other necessary time.
The council’s next meeting is April 2.
