The Texas County 4-H Shooting Sports program recently received a donation to from the Houston Lions Club.
The club donated a Gamo air rifle with scope to be raffled by the local youth who in June will represent Missouri at National Shoot in Nebraska: Kaitlyn Davis of Summersville (who will be on the smallbore rifle team) and Pierce Ford of Licking (who will be on the shotgun team).
“The generous donation from the Lions Club will help provide funds for the local youth going to the National 4-H Shoot this summer,” said MU Extension regional 4-H youth development specialist Janice Weddle. “Texas County has a long-standing reputation of a very successful 4-H Shooting Sports program and that reputation continues.”
Weddle said Texas County 4-H Shooting Sports is up to about 70 members, and for the last several years has had kids qualify to represent Missouri at the National Shoot.
“We’re very grateful for the Lions Club,” Weddle said. “They saw the need the 4-H program had and met it immediately. That kind of local support by such a great group of people is very much appreciated.
“Beyond that, the impact their donation will have in the lives of the youth they are contributing to will continue for many years. The youth will have a very rewarding experience at the National Shoot and the Lions Club is helping to make that possible. We can’t thank them enough.”
Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5, and will be available at the Licking Rodeo (May 31 through June 2), as well as at the Extension office in Houston during business hours. The drawing will take place the last night of the Licking Rodeo.
