Juanita Elsie Mae Newby Stewart, 87, of Summersville, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2018, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield.
She was born Nov. 6, 1930, in rural Summersville, daughter of George W. and Lona Lee Medlock Newby. She and Paul Amos Stewart were married June 21, 1947, in Fulton County, Ark. He passed away March 19, 1981.
She worked as a retail assistant manager at the Edwardsville Bargain Center, Trust Clerk at First National Bank of St. Louis and cook at SIU-Edwardsville and Red Apple Inn near Greers Ferry, Ark. Her favorite job was working as trail boss on the mule rides at Cross Country Trail Rides at Eminence for 21 years. She retired at age 74.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul Amos Stewart; and a life companion, Ray Norin on June 27, 2001.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary Heiney and Evelyn Tyler; four daughters, Yvonne Edwards of Amity, Ark., Vickie Sawyer of Prescott, Ariz., Paula Hackstadt of Okawville, Ill., and Jeanne Johnson of Johns Creek, Ga; three stepsons Jerry Norin, Dick Norin and Denny Norin; 18 grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at Valley Center Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery, Hartshorn, with a lunch to follow at the VFW Hall in Summersville. Services are under the direction of Bradford Funeral Home of Summersville.
