County deputies responded to calls for assistance during the last week.

The following are excerpts from reports generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:

•At about 11:15 p.m. April 14, the Missouri State Highway Patrol advised that a man had shown up at a trooper’s residence wanting to report a stabbing.

An investigating deputy made contact with the man, who said he had let another man he met in a bar come home with him, and the guest had “lost his mind” and tried to stab him. The officer spoke with the suspect and he said he hadn’t stabbed anyone, but had been led to believe the other man’s girlfriend and daughter were being held in a house against their will.

After further investigation that included a complicated and contradicting series of statements and stories from the two men and the woman, the man who showed up at the trooper’s door was arrested for making a false report and the suspect was arrested for third-degree assault. A report was sent to the county prosecutor.

•A Raymondville man reported at about 12:15 a.m. April 21 that loud music was coming from a mobile home across from his Highway 137 residence. An investigating deputy didn’t hear any music.

•A deputy responded at about 12:50 a.m. April 20 to a report of a disturbance at a Wildwood Drive residence at Raymondville. An investigating deputy made contact with a man and woman at the location who said their son had gotten the phone and made the call and there wasn’t really a disturbance.

•A deputy responded at about 4:10 p.m. April 19 to a report of a vehicle with its emergency flashers on sitting at Highway VV and Cooper Drive at Licking. An investigating officer determined the man driving the vehicle had run out of gas and a woman was on her way from Mansfield to pick him up.

The man asked the officer for a ride to the Shell station in Licking and the officer gave him the ride.

•A deputy responded April 12 to a report of trespassing at a Findley Road residence at Cabool.

The officer made contact with a 51-year-old man who lives there who said a 28-year-old Hartshorn woman was on his property and that he had asked her to leave several times but she wouldn’t. The man stated he had a court-ordered no-trespass against the woman.

The officer made contact with the woman and told her to leave, but she wouldn’t. The deputy advised her to put her hands behind her back, but she actively resisted.

The woman was ultimately arrested, but was able to unbuckle a safety belt in the officer’s patrol car and attempted to flee. The deputy got out of the vehicle and was able to get her back inside.

After a second deputy was called in for assistance, the arresting officer headed back toward Houston. On the return, the deputy was advised by Sheriff James Sigman to transport the woman to Texas County Memorial Hospital for mental evaluation.

•A 69-year-old Yukon man reported on April 19 that a white Ford F-250 flatbed truck valued at $5,000 (model year not reported) had been stolen from his Cockrell Road residence.

•At about 12:40 p.m. April 13, two men with the Summersville Fire and Rescue Department reported a suspicious fire on Highway 17 near Eunice.

The men told an investigating deputy the two trailer homes had been destroyed, but that neither had electricity, gas or water hooked up. The officer observed video from a neighbor’s camera and observed a 34-year-old woman set fire to some trash near the homes at about 9:30 p.m. April 12, and then doused the flames with a water hose about 10 minutes later.

The video reportedly showed smoke appearing about 20 minutes later and fire erupt about another five minutes later. The woman said that at about that time a man knocked on her door and said her trailer was on fire.

By about 10:30 p.m., the first trailer was fully engulfed and fire was on the ground that spread to the second unit. Contact was made April 16 with a 55-year-old man who owns the trailers, and he said he didn’t want to pursue charges against the woman for the accidental burning.
