MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL

A deputy with the Texas County Sheriff’s Department was uninjured Friday night when swerving to miss a deer while on duty north of Willow Springs. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the deputy — later identified as Conner Burnes — was traveling southbound on Highway 137 when the 11:35 p.m. wreck occurred. Burnes attempted to avoid the deer, running off the left side of the roadway and striking several small trees. He reported no injuries.

The 2017 Dodge Ram pickup was transported by Jay’s Towing of Houston, according to the patrol.

Burnes was hired May 2 as a full-time dispatcher, according to the Texas County Commission, and graduated last week from the sheriff’s academy.
