A week after receiving approval from the school board to begin a fall baseball program, Houston Schools has decided it won’t.
Dr. Allen Moss, superintendent, said Tuesday morning while he believes the concept was a good one, the move was not in the best interest of the district.
“Everything was done with the intention to strengthen the program, not to take away from one to build another,” Moss said.
The decision to add fall baseball was approved last Tuesday night with a 5-2 vote. Curtis Hubbs and Darren Ice dissented. The decision would have allowed the baseball program to register with the Missouri State High School Activities Association to play games against local teams.
Moss said concern has been expressed by community members on the impact fall baseball would have on the HHS football program, which also plays in the fall.
