The office of the Missouri Attorney General said this week it is also involved in investigating two employees at the Texas County Sheriff’s Department.
“We are aware of complaints against the Texas County Sheriff’s Office, and we are working with the Texas County prosecuting attorney to investigate them,” said Mary Compton, press secretary for the Missouri attorney general’s office.
The attorney general’s office joins the Missouri State Highway Patrol, which said Friday it is currently investigating the sheriff’s department, according to Sgt. Jeff Kinder. He said the Division of Drug and Crime Control in Troop D, which is headquartered in Springfield, is leading the investigation.
Both current and former employees of the sheriff’s department have been interviewed. Sheriff James Sigman declined comment Friday.
Kinder said the investigation began at the request of Texas County Prosecuting Attorney Parke Stevens Jr. who contacted the superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Stevens said he is prohibited from commenting.
