Houston’s Shelby Ozier is congratulated by assistant coach Jim Moore after making a catch for the final out of the Lady Tigers’ 6-3 victory against Seymour.

Jim Moore has been named the new Houston High School softball coach.

Moore, an assistant with the program this past season, is also the head girls’ basketball coach. He joined the district in 2016.

“I am fired up about being the head softball coach here in Houston,” Moore said. “I’m looking forward to the challenge and can’t wait for our summer program to get started so we can start our team building and bonding process.”

Moore takes over for Brent Hall, who led the softball program the past six seasons. Also the head baseball coach, Hall is unable to coach softball due to the program moving to the spring beginning with the 2019 season.

“I appreciate everything coach Hall has done to build our program, and I want to continue in his footsteps doing everything in my power to take us to even greater heights.,” Moore said.

The Lady Tigers went 10-11 in 2017 and won their district opener. In the transition year, the team won’t play another game until the spring of 2018.

“We have some good, talented athletes returning and some young talent just waiting for their opportunity to show what they can do,” Moore said. “With the addition of middle school softball this past spring, I expect our program to grow and I expect us to compete for championships year in and year out.”
