Paula Wiedemann, head coach of the Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzly Volleyball team, is hosting camps in July at the West Plains Civic Center.
The first camp, for elementary and junior high, is set for 9:30 a.m. to noon July 9-10 for players entering second through eighth grade. In this camp, volleyball fundamentals will be stressed in a fun and exciting atmosphere, Wiedemann said. Lightweight Volley-Lite balls will be used for younger campers.
All campers will receive a T-shirt. Cost of the camp is $50 per person.
Skills clinics will be offered July 9-11 for eighth through 12th graders. During the clinics, campers will work on improving their fundamental technique in passing/defense, attacking or setting.
The passing/defense and serving clinic will be 1 to 4 p.m. July 9, the attacking clinic from 1 to 4 p.m. July 10, and the setting clinic from 1 to 4 p.m. July 11.
During these clinics, participants of all skill levels, from beginner to advanced, will improve their basic fundamental skills and develop technique through progression drills and individual/group work, Wiedemann said.
All campers in the skills clinics also will receive a T-shirt. Cost of the camp is $40 per person for each session. A multi-camp discount will be available for the individual skills clinics.
Registrations will be taken until the first day of each camp session; however, those planning to attend should call 417-255-7950 in advance so organizers can plan accordingly and guarantee correct T-shirt size.
