Texas County placed second in Missouri in the spring firearms turkey season that concluded Sunday.
Hunters killed 694 birds in the county.
Perry Kimrey, 87, holds a 30-pound, 2-ounce turkey he shot on the farm where he was born and raised on Roubidoux Creek in western Texas County.
The top counties were: Franklin (708), Texas (694) and Laclede (623).
Hunters in Texas County had killed 586 adult gobblers, 96 juveniles and 12 bearded hens. The totals follow a slow start brought on by rain, cold temperatures and a poor hatch.Â

Hunters in Texas County — as of Tuesday morning — had killed 535 turkeys — 455 adult gobblers, 70 juveniles and eight bearded hen. It is third in the state.
