Revenue from the City of Houston's sales tax was up in Houston in the latest distribution, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue. 

Sales tax collections were up about 4 percent during the latest monthly distribution compared to the same period a year ago, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue.

The total from a one-cent sales tax was $63,198, which is up $2,481 from the same month in 2017. For the first five months of 2018, collections are $290,600, which is down slightly — $2,431 for the year.

Merchants also collect two, quarter-cent sales tax that earmarked for utilities, sidewalks and roads. Both of those each generated $15,597, which was up $661 on each. For the year, $70,257 has been collected, nearly unchanged from last year.
