A traffic stop conducted by Cabool police ended with two people in the vehicle facing felony drug charges and one facing a weapons charge.
Following an investigation at the scene, Kelsey A. Eastland, 26, of 8520 Sartor Road in Mountain Grove, is charged with felonies of possession of a controlled substance and unlawful use of a weapon, and Chase A.L. Dugger, 20, is charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
A Cabool Police Department officer reported that a white Ford sedan bearing license plates of a Plymouth van was pulled over last Saturday (June 23) at an unreported location.
A second officer who was in a patrol car behind the first officer’s also stopped at the scene, and a substance resembling marijuana was observed on the floor inside the stopped car. Five people inside the vehicle (three female and two male) were asked to exit, and the driver – Eastland – asked if a search was about to take place.
An officer reportedly replied, “yes,” and Eastland proceeded to reach into her shirt and pull out a small scale and a glass smoking pipe. She stated the items were hers and she had injected methamphetamine about two or three hours earlier.
A female Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper was called in to assist with searching the three women, while a Cabool officer searched the males. One of the males – Dugger – was found to have a cigarette pack in his possession that contained a small plastic bag containing a substance that field-tested positive as meth.
Dugger reportedly admitted the items were his and said he had snorted meth earlier in the day.
Shortly after the traffic stop was initiated, Eastland reportedly told police she had a gun in her purse.
Eastland and Dugger were each arrested and taken to the Texas County Jail. They are each held on $75,000 bond.
