Military veteran

Darrell Neal, 85, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018, at his home in Upton.

He was born Dec. 21, 1932, in Upton, son of Herman and Myrtle Merchant Neal.

He grew up in the Upton area and attended Pleasant Ridge School.

He enlisted in the Navy at age 17 and served for 20 years, including the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He received several medals for his service.

After his discharge, he returned to the Upton area and raised beef cattle.

He enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours hunting for coyotes. He enjoyed helping others.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Alben and Dale.

Survivors include three daughters, Jessie McCown of Huggins, Pam Katafiaz of St. Inigoes, Md., and Carol Neal of Pahrump, Nev.; a son, Darin Archuleta of Houston; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Wilbert and Robert; five sisters, Marie Franklin, Donna Campbell, Lavelle Johnson, Dee Gronewaller and Linda Kay Smith; and many other family members and friends.

No services are planned. Cremation was under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
