SUSAN J. CAMPBELL

County authorities said murder suspect Kenneth Clark – who shot himself in a failed suicide attempt – is “on the mend.”

Texas County Sheriff Rowdy Douglas said Monday that Clark’s condition has been upgraded from critical to stable and that he’s undergoing physical therapy in St. Louis.

“He still can’t talk, but he should be able to soon,” Douglas said.

Clark, 52, is charged in the kidnapping of Susan J. Campbell, 56, who was shot Aug. 19 at Roby Lake. Her body was found in a vehicle at Roby that had been occupied by Clark. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Clark was airlifted to a St. Louis hospital.

Authorities became aware of a potential dangerous situation following a report that a woman — Campbell — had been abducted and forced into a car at about noon at Houston Walmart Supercenter parking lot. Two hours later, the car was reported on the parking lot of a convenience store at Roby with Clark nearby. A gun and shell casings were found at Roby Lake.

Authorities identified Clark as the former boyfriend of Campbell, who had earlier sought an order of protection. They owned property north of Cabool.

Services for Campbell are incomplete in Delaware.
