An area church is launching a new ministry to reach young moms.
Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) is a monthly gathering where moms can share their hopes, fears and insights in a safe and fun environment. The local meeting will be the second Friday of each month beginning Sept. 14 at Faith Fellowship. Sessions start at 10 a.m.
The gatherings are open to soon-to-be moms, first-time moms and even seventh-time moms, the church said. They can be adoptive, young, seasoned, foster, step or any other type of mom. The only guideline is children must not yet be kindergarten age.
“Moms are inundated with beautifully curated photos and blogs that suggest parenting shouldn’t look a little messy. Our goal with MOPS is to be a place of refuge where moms don’t have to pretend they have it all together,” said Faith Fellowship leader Brittney McNiell. “We will have real, honest and sometimes messy conversations about the joy and difficulties of being a mom. We want to equip moms with tools to maneuver these challenging early years and cultivate friendships with women who understand this exact season of life.”
A MOPS gathering includes practical help through speakers, demonstrations, videos, crafts and time to be together to discuss life and parenting. Childcare will be provided. A brunch will be served for adults and lunch for children.
According to its website, “MOPS International encourages and equips moms of young children to realize their potential as mothers, women and leaders, in relationship with Jesus, and in partnership with the local church.”
