Authorities are investigating an armed robbery Tuesday morning at Town and Country Bank on East Highway 32 at Licking.
A lone gunman entered the bank about 9:40 a.m. A spokeswoman for the FBI said the man walked into the bank, displayed a handgun and made an oral demand for cash. He fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash that had been placed in yellow grocery style bags inside a green/gray colored backpack. The man left on foot, but may have departed in a dark-colored SUV, the FBI said late Tuesday afternoon. No one was injured. The bank was closed as the investigation continued.
The suspect is described as 5 foot-7 inches to 5 foot-10 inches, 180 pounds and medium build. He was wearing a black hooded University of Missouri sweatshirt, black knit cap, blue jeans and fingerless black gloves.
Officers from several agencies canvassed the area, visited nearby businesses and followed up on tips. Assisting the FBI are the Licking Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol and Texas County Sheriff’s Department.
Anyone with information about the crime should contact the Springfield office of the FBI at 417-882-3303 or local law enforcement.
The last bank robbery in Texas County was August 2002 at the Bank of Plato.
