George “Leroy” Barton, the son of George Avery Barton and Vernia Bell Morgan Barton, was born in Raymondville, Mo., on Aug. 12, 1943. He passed away in his home, which he shared with his first wife and companion Glenda Barton, in Houston, Mo, on Sept. 5, 2018, making him 75 years and 24 days old.
He was united in marriage to Glenda Carol Barton on June 29, 1962, and to this union four daughters were born. They were divorced in 1989. Leroy then united with Georgia Fay, who he considered his wife for more than 20 years.
Preceding Leroy in death were his parents, George and Vernia; his considered wife, Georgia Fay; his infant daughter, Brenda Kay Barton; his siblings, Leslie, Normal, Bonnie, Lonnie, Betty, Carol, Blanche and infant sister; one considered stepson, Jason Harris.
He is survived by his three daughters, Linda Simmons (Michael Rossi) of St. Louis, Mo., Susan Barton (Randall Duenke) of Ellisville, Mo., and Sharon Barton of Houston, Mo.; two considered stepchildren, Brenda Accardi of St. Louis, Mo., and Raymond Harris of St. Louis, Mo.; three grandchildren, Robin Summers of St. Louis, Mo., Kayla Simmons (Shelton Sapp) of St. Louis, Mo., and Christopher Simmons of St. Louis, Mo.; one step-grandson, Larry Simmons of St. Louis, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Landen and Layla Sapp; one sister, Bonnie Richards of Houston, Mo.; three brothers, Arnold (Sonny) Barton of Cabool, Mo., Avery Barton (wife Denise) of Raymondville, Mo., and Jerry Barton of Hartshorn, Mo.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services were 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at Evans Funeral Home with Pastor David Barbee officiating. Cremation followed the service. Burial at a later date will be in Friendship Cemetery.
Arrangements and cremation were under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
