A Mountain View man is jailed on two felony charges after a Texas County Sheriff’s Department investigation earlier this month.
According to a deputy’s report, two phone calls were received Sept. 9 indicating a man had been seen riding an ATV into a wooded area on Highway TT that matched the description of one reported stolen a week earlier.
Officers arrived on scene and began a search, but the man then rode the ATV back out of the woods, and it was identified as the stolen unit. The man in possession of the ATV was identified as Daniel L. Cooper, 34, of 503 E. 4th St. in Mountain View. While speaking with deputies, Cooper reportedly admitted to stealing the ATV from the property of the man who had reported it stolen. According to a report, an officer asked Cooper if he had anything illegal with him, and he said there was a pill bottle containing methamphetamine inside a bag in a storage compartment on the ATV.
Cooper is charged with stealing a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance (both class D felonies. He is held in the Texas County Jail on $100,000 bond.
