The Houston Police Department handled several investigations in the last week.

A Cabool man faces additional charges after his latest encounter by law enforcement in the county, authorities said.

Mike E. Scranlin, 41, of Route 3 Box 662 at Cabool, was issued citations for first-degree trespassing and failure to obey a police officer after an incident Oct. 5 at Texas County Memorial Hospital.

A pair of officers were dispatched at about 9:35 p.m. regarding a report of an unruly man in the emergency room. The officers were advised by a hospital security guard that the husband of a woman in an examination room in the ER department – Scranlin – was drunk and had been warned several times to stop shouting and cursing. Scranlin also allegedly had brought a large bottle of liquor into the room and had been consuming it until it was taken from him by hospital employees.

The guard indicated he wanted Scranlin to leave and not return that night. Officers made contact with Scranlin and he decided to leave. He was reportedly given a courtesy ride to a motel where he was staying and told not to return to TCMH that night.

But at about 10:15 p.m., Scranlin was reportedly seen walking along U.S. 63 toward the hospital. He was then reportedly observed walking onto hospital property and heading for the ER doors.

An officer confronted Scranlin and asked why he was going back after being told not to, and he reportedly replied that nobody was going to keep him from seeing his wife. He was then arrested, handcuffed and cited, and taken to the Texas County Jail for a 12-hour hold period.

Scranlin has been the subject of several calls by authorities. In one case, he was struck by a vehicle on Highway M and flown to a Springfield hospital. On Sunday night, a deputy assisted an ambulance crew when Scranlin was reported sparking issues en route to the institution.
