County deputies responded to several calls during the last week.

The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:

•A 27-year-old Willow Springs woman came to the TCSD office on Nov. 25 to report that an orange 2007 Ford Edge valued at $10,000 had been stolen from a residence at Tiffany Drive trailer park at Houston.

The woman told an officer that a woman who lived there was buying the vehicle via monthly payments and it had been swiped by a 41-year-old Houston man.

Investigation is ongoing.

•A 74-year-old Licking woman reported on Nov. 24 that a .22-caliber rifle and two non-working computers had been stolen from her Highway AF residence. A 28-year-old Licking man is a suspect.

•A deputy responded on Nov. 24 to a report of a vicious dog running loose on Piney Drive at Bucyrus that had approached several residents in the area, growling at them in their yards or getting in and out of their vehicles.

Upon arrival, the dog reportedly approached the officer in an aggressive manner and the officer deployed pepper spray to make it back off. The man who owns the dog was contacted and advised that if it attacked a person or animal, he would be liable for all costs incurred by victims. He said he understood and wouldn’t let the dog roam the neighborhood.

•Deputies were dispatched to the Texas County Jail at about 11 a.m. Nov. 25 regarding a report of a 25-year-old male inmate trying to hang himself.

Upon arrival, jail personnel advised the officers that the inmate had been found hanging from a sprinkler head by his jail-issued towel. He had apparently used food from a food tray to cover a camera.

The jailers and the deputies went to place the inmate in a restraint chair in a padded cell, but he started fighting. A deputy eventually used a taser on drive stun to subdue the inmate, and he was placed in the restraint chair wearing a specialized suit.

•A deputy was dispatched at about 9;45 a.m. Nov. 22 regarding a report of a possible armed robbery at a Hidden Valley Road residence at Mountain Grove.

The officer made contact with a 29-year-old man there who said there were three men in the woods with guns and a man inside his residence with a gun. The officer observed that the man was unable to stand still and was likely under the influence of drugs.

The man told the officer he had been clean for nine months but had used meth the night before. He reportedly admitted he could have been seeing things and there wasn’t anyone with guns. He was taken to jail to sober up.

•On Nov. 22, a corrections officer at the Texas County Jail was walking on the sidewalk outside the jail and found a plastic bag containing seven small bags of methamphetamine and two yellow pills.

An investigating deputy advised the jailer to look at surveillance video to see if the person who dropped the bag could be identified. The drugs were destroyed, but no suspect was identified.
