A group was announced this week to support the Melba Performing Arts Center in downtown Houston.
Downtown Houston Inc. said it was forming the group after restoring the theatre in 2016-2017. It opened in December 2017.
Here are details from a letter:
The Melba Theatre is 80 years old this year and open for business again after Bessie Kelly Herrington first opened the doors! Since the renovation and grand opening late last year many events have been held. Others have reserved the Melba for special/personal activities and meetings. We are so pleased with the success, but more work needs to be done.
Members of Downtown Houston Inc., the group that oversaw the renovation, met recently and set new goals to work on, and you can help. The first is working to attract more regional publicity on scheduled events. Please share our public events with your friends. Secondly, we want to form and invite you to become a “Melba Patron of the Arts.” You can contribute yearly to the artistic richness of our county, while helping to ensure that the performing art experiences are accessible for future audiences. Lastly, we need funds to maintain the beautiful Melba building and provide utilities and insurance. Current income is from rentals and concession proceeds, but we need more. We rely on dedicated volunteers for staffing and maintaining the Melba.
Please consider joining “Melba Patrons of the Arts.” Donations can be mailed with the form below to: Downtown Houston Inc., P.O. Box 170, Houston, Mo. 65483. All donations are tax-deductible. The group is a not-for-profit organization that works to preserve and encourage many facets of the local and county economy through preservation, revitalization and usage of our historic past and present resources.
