Charles R, Staton Sr. (Oot), 81, was born Aug. 20, 1937, in Buena Vista, Va., to Violet Shaw and Benjamin Staton. He passed away Dec. 8, 2018, at his home in Licking, Mo.

Charlie served in the National Guard. He worked for Coty’s cologne and perfume in Sanford, N.C., retiring in 1996.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 57 years, Vivian Staton; a brother, Buddy Staton; his sisters, Alice Moore and Doris Camden; and a special son-in-law, Donald Jones.

Charlie is survived by his children, Veronicia Jones, Tabatha Sexton and Charles R. Staton Jr. and wife, Sapphire “Sassy,” and a special son-in-law, Gene Garrett, all of Licking, Mo.; three sisters, Gin Moore, Shirley Camden and Suzie Dale; a brother, Butch Staton all of Virginia; eight grandchildren, Steven and Darlene Hadley of Florida, Chris and Shayla Hadley of Licking, Mo., Tiffany Cunningham and Ray Tharp of Licking, Mo., Jessie and Whitney Garrett of Licking, Mo., Jessica Sexton of Virginia, Nichole and Daniel Coley of Virginia and Belle, Teagan and Willow Staton of Licking, Mo.; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Charlie loved to hunt and fish. He loved music, especially bluegrass. He also loved spending time with his family.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018, at Evans Funeral Home. Services are 1 p.m. Friday Dec. 14, 2018, at Evans Funeral Home. Burial will be in C T Smith Cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearers are Chris Hadley, Charles Staton Jr., Jessie Garrett, Dustin Rhodes, Kenneth Lee, Raymond Tharp and Andrew Creese.
