Government shutdown

The federal government entered day 10 of a closure on Monday because of a standoff over President Donald Trump’s demand for money to build a border wall with Mexico.

With Trump’s insistence on $5 billion for the wall and negotiations with Democrats in Congress far from a breakthrough, even a temporary measure to keep the government running while talks continued seems out of reach until the Senate returns for a full session Thursday.

Locally, several federal agencies operate in Houston. They include the U.S. Forest Service and a service center on South U.S. 63 that includes several agencies of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The U.S. Postal Service is not affected and mail will continue to be delivered.
