Like the 10 times previously, a Mountain Grove man is charged with driving without a license. He also faces two other offenses, including possession of meth, authorities said.
James L. Creed, 37, of 225 S. Wall in Mountain Grove, is charged with possession of a controlled substance (a class D felony), driving while revoked (a class E felony) and no insurance.
A Cabool Police Department officer reported that while on patrol, he noticed a vehicle traveling on Peabody Avenue with one non-working headlight. The officer stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver – Creed – who he knew had a suspended driver’s license.
After a tow truck was contacted to remove the vehicle, the officer asked Creed to step out of it and he reportedly said there was a “paperweight” in the center console. Creed was placed in the back of the officer’s patrol car, and a subsequent inventory of items in Creed’s vehicle revealed a set of brass knuckles in the center console, a small black bag in the pouch on the back of the front passenger’s seat that contained a small plastic bag of methamphetamine, a glass pipe, several other small bags containing white residue and a small bag of marijuana.
A computer check revealed that Creed was on probation for stealing a motor vehicle – third or subsequent offense, and receiving stolen property. He was taken to the Texas County Jail and is held on $150,000 bond.
The contents of the black bag were placed into evidence and sent to a lab for testing.
The officer noted in the report that Creed had 10 previous convictions for driving without a valid license.
