Christmas concert
The Southern Ozarks Community Orchestra is among those performing at the Melba Performing Arts Center.

Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the holidays and enjoy a musical treat entitled “Just For Fun” presented by the Southern Ozarks Community Orchestra.

The group will present the concert on at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at the Melba Performing Arts Center in downtown Houston. Admission is $7 for adults. Children ages 12 and under are free. The inclement weather date is Dec. 16.

Attendees will enjoy a live performance of an exciting mix of pop and Christmas classics including a medley of Journey’s Greatest Hits, the Eagles, and jazzy numbers like “Jump Swing Fever” and “St. Louis Blues”! “Just For Fun” pieces sure to entertain are “Pirates of the Caribbean” and a Latin rock number called “Smooth”. Also included in the program are the lovely ballads “Let There Be Peace on Earth” and “What a Wonderful World”. Christmas selections include “Sleigh Ride”, “A Christmas Festival” by Leroy Anderson, and “Christmas Rocks at the Pops”. There is something for everyone at this concert.

The Southern Ozarks Community Orchestra was established in 2009 and has grown to more than 30 volunteer musicians from southern Missouri and northern Arkansas. Members include retirees, students, musical educators, professional and non-professional musicians with a love for presenting live concerts to this area. Jodie Forbes is the conductor and Nikki Dean is the associate conductor of the orchestra.
