Betty Jean (Shelton) McKee, 81, was born Oct. 12, 1937, to Earl and Helen (Hayes) Shelton in Ellis Prairie, Mo. She passed away Jan. 12, 2019, at Willow Care Nursing Center, Willow Springs, Mo., to join her brother Dean, the last name she remembered and the last person she looked for.
Betty was a caregiver at heart; she worked at Missouri Home Care for over 20 years, enabling elderly people to live in their own homes. She also took relatives into her own home when situations needed or helped them stay in their own homes as long as her health permitted.
She married Ernest McKee on May 25, 1957, in Upton, Mo. They were blessed with two daughters and lived the majority of their married life in Bucyrus, Mo.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest; and two siblings, Dean Shelton and Wanda Garrett.
Surviving are her daughters, Sherry Harmon and husband, David, and Tammy Scheets and husband, Darren; grandchildren, Jessica Smith and husband, Jamie, and Jake Scheets and wife, Stefanie; a great-granddaughter, Amy; a niece, Liz Stewart and husband, Matt, and their children, Emma and Grace; a sister Janet Cole; a brother-in-law, Charles McKee; a sister-in-law, Joyce Shelton; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Gene and Rochelle McKee.
Betty was happiest when her family was around her table eating delicious home cooked meals that often ended with one of her blackberry cobblers. She enjoyed going on wagon rides with Tammy and Darren and went to every Log Cabin Field day as long as her health permitted at Sherry and David’s cabin. Betty was always finding something special for the log cabin.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by her family and friends.
