David R. Stoops, 88, passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at Mountain View Healthcare.
He was born Sept. 20, 1930, in Summersville, son of Elgin and Mabel Garner Stoops. He and Glenda Lowell were married Oct. 12, 1984.
He was saved at an early age. He attended Midvale Pentecostal Holiness Church, then later Hartshorn Assembly of God Church. He and his wife, Glenda, loved spending time with former pastors Emmett and Beth Bradford and close friends Calvin & Waneta Cooper.
He was a logger. He also loved woodworking. He made cabinets and numerous items.
He loved the outdoors. Deer and turkey hunting were a favorite past-time, but his fondest memories he shared with his family were the times he spent fishing on Big Creek with his father, Elgin.
He spent many hours with a special niece, Pam Bristow, who helped care for him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Glenda; two brothers, Andy Stoops and Ervin Stoops; and a sister, Eileen Powell.
Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Steelman of Hartshorn; a son, Darryl Lowell of Summersville; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and other family members.
Services are Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Bradford Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Steelman officiating. Burial will be in Riley Cemetery, Hartshorn.
