Dorothy Lee Jones, 90, passed away peacefully at her home Jan. 27, 2019. She was born to Jess and Elzonia (McCarty) Barfield on March 17, 1928, in Hico, Texas.
Dorothy received Jesus Christ as her Savior at a young age. She married Charlie Everett Jones on June 1, 1946, in Lawton, Okla. The couple decided to move to Missouri in 1966, and Dorothy asked that Everett find them a home near a local church she could attend. Everett purchased a farm in Solo, MO within ¼ mile of New Hope Baptist Church. Dorothy loved New Hope and was faithful right to the end. She was dressed and ready for church; she lay on the couch for a short nap until time to leave and then passed into eternity.
She will be greatly missed by family and friends. She always found time to fix dinners and lend a helping hand to all in need. Dorothy loved her family, church and even complete strangers. She was very hospitable and knew no other way to live her life.
Dorothy enjoyed gardening, spending time in the yard with her flowers and especially feeding her wild birds –– the “red birds” were her favorite.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Richard; and two granddaughters.
She is survived by her children, Ernie, Eddie, Mike, Kenny and Glenda; 19 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews; and a faithful dog, Max.
Visitation is noon Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019, at New Hope Baptist Church with services beginning at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jackie Cooper officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Dusty Jones, Zach Jones, Clinton Jones, Shane Jones, Michael Jones and Tray Jones.
Memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church, in lieu of flowers.
