Mildred “Fern” Sudheimer, 90, of Roby, Mo., daughter of Newt and Mable (Sallee) Richards, was born Jan. 5, 1929, on the Richards family farm in Plato, Mo. She passed away Jan. 16, 2019.
Fern attended and graduated the eight grade at the Blackjack School House, a one-room cobblestone school located five miles outside of Plato, Mo., where she and many of her siblings walked to and from each day. After being introduced by her brothers, she was married to George Sudheimer on Feb. 3, 1950. She accepted the Lord and Savior and has been a member of the Roby Baptist Church for 69 years.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 49 years, George; brothers, Wayne Richards, Henry Richards, Gerald Richards and Howard Richards; sisters, Pauline Madison, Della Mae Allen and two infant sisters.
She is survived by two brothers, Joe Richards of Sumpter, S.C., and Harold Richards of Houston, Mo.; two sisters, Laverne Rowden of Bucyrus, Mo., and Thelma Tackett of Lebanon, Mo.; three sons, George Sudheimer and wife, Ellen, of Panama City Beach, Fla., John Sudheimer and wife, Linda, of Houston, Mo., and Freddie Sudheimer and wife, Jana, of Harrisonville, Mo.; six grandchildren, Ginger, Heather, Craig, Trever, Nathan and Ben; six great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
Fern enjoyed keeping busy, always working hard whether it be all the years of helping raise younger siblings, doing the chores around the farm, keeping a very clean home, preparing meals for her family and church dinners and in later years caring for elderly family members. She always put out big gardens, watermelon and strawberry patches and would treat visitors with a hot cup of coffee, lunch and a homemade dessert. She always enjoyed deer and squirrel hunting, fishing and camping on the Big Piney, Gasconade and Little Niangua rivers as well as going to the deer woods with family and friends as she would always sweep the campsite grounds to tidy things up.
She will be missed by all that knew her throughout the community, friends and family that she loved so dear.
Services were 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, at Roby Baptist Church with Eugene Earp officiating. Burial was in Palace Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home. Pallbearers were George Sudheimer, John Sudheimer, Fred Sudheimer, Craig Sudheimer, Trever Sudheimer, Nathan Sudheimer and Ben Sudheimer.
