City of Houston Fire Department personnel responded to a blaze on Wednesday night that ravaged a house at 142 N. Oak Crest Ave.
Chief Robbie Smith said the fire started with a space heater in a large closet (also used for storage). Flames quickly spread and burned many rooms before being snuffed, Smith said, while smoke damage was evident throughout the structure.
The house – occupied by Kristina Choate – was considered a total loss. Nobody was injured.
More than a dozen firefighters responded to the blaze at about 6:30 p.m., along with a truck and personnel from the Houston Rural Fire Department.
An investigator from the state fire marshal’s office in Ava was contacted and inspected the scene.
