Michael E. Scranlin

A Cabool man faces a felony domestic assault charge after an incident last week involving a woman.

Michael E. Scranlin, 41, of 524-R Main St. in Cabool, is charged with third-degree domestic assault (a class E felony).

A Cabool Police Department officer reported that while he was on patrol at about 11 p.m. Feb. 14, he was advised by a department dispatcher that a woman came into the police station lobby who was crying and scared and reported the incident. The officer reported Scranlin came in a short time later and was screaming at the woman, and the dispatcher moved the woman to a secured room to avoid a physical confrontation.

The officer arrived at the station and spoke with Scranlin, who stated he and the woman had gotten into an argument, but it didn’t get physical. He reportedly told the officer he had punched a wall but hadn’t touched the woman.

The officer spoke with the woman, who was crying and shaking, and she said she left their residence at about 10 p.m. because Scranlin had scared her by stating he was going to kill her. The officer reported the victim stated Scranlin hit her in the head and arm, pushed her in the chest and kicked her in the legs, and that she ran to the police station when Scranlin went to the bathroom.

The officer observed marks on the woman’s left arm, upper chest area and left leg, according to a report.

Scranlin was arrested and later taken to the Texas County Jail. His bond is set at $250,000.
