A surveyor's flag marks a corner of property at Hawthorn and King streets in Houston. The property has been sold.

The sale of a 4.25-acre tract owned by the City of Houston was finalized last week.

The deal transfers property to Scott Lauderdale for $60,000 that is bounded by Hawthorn, King and Chestnut streets and is informally known as the Forbes property.

The city bought the land for $80,000 in 2013 and spent another $25,000 to demolish two homes.

Rumors that the land deal was in the works brought questions and criticism from some neighbors in the area. No use of the land has been announced.

Any development would likely need approval by the Houston Planning and Zoning Commission and a building permit issued by the city administrator’s office.
