After a Texas County Sheriff’s Department investigation of a series of alleged incidents on Feb. 17, a county man is jailed and faces a felony assault charge.
Jared T. Sheppard, 34, whose address in court records is 12576 Murr Road at Cabool, is charged with third-degree domestic assault (a class E felony).
A deputy’s report indicates Sheppard and a woman were involved in an argument in a residence on Turley Road at Plato. The woman reportedly told officers Sheppard cornered her in the bathroom after breakfast, and he poked her in the chest, leaving a bruise (that was photographed by deputies as evidence).
The woman told officers Sheppard cooled off and asked her to go for a ride with him so they could speak away from children who were home during the incident. She reportedly said she tried at one point to get out of the truck, but Sheppard hit the gas, grabbed her arm and pulled her back inside.
The woman told officers that during the ongoing argument, Sheppard pulled her back into the truck again by her hair, causing her nose to hit the steering wheel and begin bleeding, authorities said.  She stated he also tried to get her to take what he said was a Xanax pill, and that when she said she didn’t want to, he tried to forcibly make her ingest it by shoving it into her mouth.
During questioning after he was arrested, Sheppard told officers he has a severe anger problem and needs assistance with it, according to a report. Â He and the alleged victim each told officers they have had similar problems for about three years.
Sheppard is in the Texas County Jail. His bond is set at $250,000.
