In honor of Missouri’s 200th anniversary, the Community Betterment and Arts Council of Houston is sponsoring a Texas County Quilt contest.
Participants must create a 6.5-inch by 6.5-inch 100-percent cotton quilt block (including seam allowance) and submit it by July 1. There is an entry fee of $10 per block.
Blocks should represent Texas County and include the significance of depicted features. They should have no embellishments and no copyrighted images.
Three judges will select one block to be entered in the statewide Missouri Bicentennial Quilt. The winning participant will be asked to do a second block for a county quilt that will be displayed at various events during the state bicentennial celebration in 2021.
A public meeting outlining the project is set for 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, at the Houston Senior Center (on Grand Avenue downtown). Attendees can purchase lunch at the center at 11:30 a.m.
Quilt blocks can be mailed to the Community Betterment and Arts Council of Houston, P.O. Box 222, Houston, Mo., 65483.
