A Springfield man is charged with two felonies and is jailed on $500,000 bond after a Cabool Police Department investigation.

James Ruark, 41, of 1224 S. Belcrest Ave., No. 74, in Springfield, is charged with first-degree assault (a class B felony) and second-degree domestic assault (a class D felony).

He is accused of hitting a man in the back of the head as he attempted to get into a truck.

A woman identified as his off-and-on girlfriend  — according to an officer’s report —was choked after Ruark demanded money. She told officers he threatened to kill her.

The male victim traveled to Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains for treatment of a head wound. The man arrived at the Cabool police station just after 9 p.m. and produced paperwork from the hospital. Photographs were taken of the wounded area.

Ruark was found by a pair of Texas County Sheriff’s Department deputies at a Morgan Road residence at Elk Creek. He was taken to the Cabool police station and placed in a cell for a 24-hour hold. During questioning there, Ruark reportedly admitted to hitting the man with a metal bat.

He was later transferred to the Texas County Jail.
