Revenue from the City of Houston's sales taxes was up in Houston in the latest distribution, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue. 

Sales tax revenue in Houston during the first month of the year jumped about 13.4 percent from the same period a year ago, the Missouri Department of Revenue reports.

The total from a one-cent sales tax was $67,922, which was up $9,125 from the first month of 2018.

Merchants also collect two quarter-cent sale taxes for streets, sidewalks and utility work. Each totaled $14,618, which was an increase of $1,059 each from a year ago.

Taxes returned to the city from internet sales totaled $4,047.
