Alvin Archie Bird, 80, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Mountain View Healthcare.
He was born Sept. 30, 1938, in Summersville, son of Archie Bird and Alva Roark Bird. He and Carol Sue Carmack were married March 14, 1978.
He attended Summersville High School. He worked construction and sawmill jobs. He also worked at Cooper’s Farm Supply for several years and did custom hay baling.
He attended Oakside Church and was a deacon there for many years. He also served on the Carroll Township board.
He enjoyed turkey hunting with friends, deer hunting and sitting in his yard visiting with family and friends. He loved to trade guns and was always looking for a good deal.
One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren and his dogs, Buddy, Trixie and Trigger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol; a brother, Willie Bird; and a great-grandson.
Survivors include seven children, Stephanie Miller, Stephen Bird, Claude Bird, Gene Weaver, Tracey Mann, Mike Weaver and Pam Dolde; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Ida Sweet; and many friends.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, at Oakside Church with Pastor Lee Frost and the Rev. George Smith officiating. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at Bradford Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Oakside Cemetery.
