For the eighth consecutive year, believers in Texas County will join an effort across Missouri to share their faith on Good Friday.
“Carry The Cross” unites area Christians to stand alongside U.S. 63 from 7-11 a.m. April 19 as witnesses for Christ. More than 1,300 people participated last year as 209 life-size crosses covered nearly every quarter- mile from west of Cabool to the Texas County line north of Licking.
“Most events fade over time, but Carry The Cross continues to grow,” said Jeff McNiell, regional coordinator. “It’s one of the most significant faith-based efforts I’ve ever seen and is incredibly important to our churches, families and community.
Participants in Texas County will join other Christians across the state as they stand with 10-foot crosses for four hours on Good Friday. The crosses, made of PVC pipe, will be provided to those who participate. Locations are assigned by the Houston Ministerial Alliance, which coordinates the effort in the county.

Carry The Cross Tshirts are available to purchase for $12 in sizes youth small through adult 4XL.
The morning kicks off with at 6 a.m. a rally inside Hiett Gymnasium. It includes worship, instructions for the day, group photo and a brief message.
Participants then go to their assigned location, where the cross will be dropped off. It will also be picked up.
“Many people may not feel like they can speak from a stage, sing or even answer questions about their faith. But we can all hold a cross,” McNiell said. “We obey the command from Jesus to share our faith with the world – in this instance those driving along the highway on Good Friday – and trust the Holy Spirit moves in the hearts of those who see the crosses. We’ve seen it happen in past years and expect God will move in the same way this year.”
