DAVID E. IMPEY JR.

David E. Impey Jr., whose leadership extended to several local institutions, has died.

Mr. Impey, a Houston resident, was a mayor in the mid-1970s who presided over the dedication of Emmett Kelly Park that had started in previous administrations. For 18 years until December 1994 he was the city municipal judge. Later, he became an associate county commissioner. He is a past president of the Texas County Library board. He was 93.

He and his wife of 71 years, Rose, operated Houston Insurance after purchasing it from Joe Richardson in 1966. The Impey’s insurance agency was sold in 1990 to Mitchell Insurance Agency.

A Houston High School graduate, he received a diploma from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and U.S. Navy. He later was an instructor at the Houston School District.

Services for Mr. Impey are 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, at Evans Funeral Home, Houston. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
