George Earl Howell, 76, passed away Monday, March 18, 2019, at his home in Summersville.
He was born Aug. 4, 1942, in Salem, son of John and Mildred Smith Howell. He married Janice Wandell. He later married Marilyn Pitts Evans on Jan. 1, 1995.
He sat on the Summersville City Council and also belonged to the Flag Committee. He took pride in the installation of the flags on the Summersville square as he was a veteran of the Army, serving from 1960 to 1963.
He loved hunting and spending time outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kenneth Howell; a brother, Danny Howell; four sisters, Edna Mae Clayton, Fern George, Louise Pitts and Becky Thomlinson; and a grandson.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; three sons, Ronnie, Kevin and Roger Howell; three stepchildren, Tara Finley, Donny Evans and Shannon Trokey; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren;
Services were Thursday, March 21, at Bradford Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Steelman officiating. Burial with with military honors was in Street Cemetery, Hartshorn.
