SID HIGASHI

Retired Air Force MSgt. Sid Higashi of Success was recently chosen by radio station ESPN 107.3 in Rolla as its March veteran of the month. He conducted a live interview and answered questions about his military career.

He enlisted at 17 and did three tours in Vietnam. Being an American Japanese, he spend his childhood in a Japanese internment camp in California with his family although they were all American citizens by birth during World War II. He was born in Stockton, Calif.

He spent 21 years in the military serving in Vietnam, Korea and Okinawa.

He says he loved serving his country and tried to re-enter to serve in Desert Storm and Iraq.

He is disabled, a victim of cancer, ALS and Parkinson’s Disease.

There were 20 merchants who honored him with nice gifts, reports his wife, Mary Ellen.
