The Houston school board hired a new music teacher and decided not to renew the contract of its agriculture instructor during Tuesday’s monthly meeting.
Hershel Williams was unanimously hired as the new high school and middle school music educator. He replaces Beth Williamson, who is retiring.
The renewal of Katelyn Hodges’ ag contract died for a lack of a second. Her tenure will conclude at the end of the current school year.

Also during the meeting, school board members:
•Renewed the contract of Jennifer Johnson, director of the Exceptional Child Education Cooperative, through 2020.
•Accepted the resignation of Mark Conway, high school English teacher, at the end of the school year.
•Were led in the pledge of allegiance by Lilly Scheliga, nominee for middle school student of the month.
