Houston Elementary School kindergarten students participated again this year in bicycle safety classes sponsored by Healthy Schools Healthy Communities (HSHC) and the Texas County Health Department.
HSHC and the health department provided students with helmets, reflective helmet storage bags and safety information packets. HSHC and Houston Elementary School provided two bikes for the classes that were given away in a drawing at the end of the classes (winners were Olivia Hoffman and Dominic Stice).
The classes took place during regularly scheduled PE classes on Feb. 25, 26 and 27 and March 8. Instruction was provided by Houston residents Delbert and Elaine Campbell, with help from HSHC community wellness coordinator Earlene Stoops, Houston Elementary School PE teacher Boulder McKinney and health department staff member Jen Russell.
“I take great pride to have teamed up with all of these wonderful people who care so much about these kids,” Stoops said. “And a special thanks goes to Delbert and Elaine.”
