Members of the Texas County Commission handled several matters recently, according to recently released minutes. 

Members of the Texas County Commission met March 13-14. During the meetings, commissioners:

•Heard from George Sholtz regarding road and bridge funds distributed to townships and how the commission allots township funds. Bridge condition evaluations also were highlighted.

•Discussed activities involving the University of Missouri Texas County Extension office in Houston with local Extension representatives Brandi Sutherland and Eric Meusch.

•Heard from county emergency management director Clinton Schwarz concerning the emergency management plan, a grant and a South Central Council of Government survey on local government plans.

•Reviewed and approved a contract with Date Township.

•Signed an agreement with Anthem Group Dental Plan.

•Heard from Jeremy Manning with Smith Engineering regarding bridge questions.

•Learned from Sheriff Scott Lindsey about a recent meeting of the Missouri Sheriff’s Association. Members discussed Advanced Heathcare, which provides medical services in the jail, as well as transport van bids. The commission learned that Amy Brown resigned as a part-time cook effective March 1 and Alexis Duarte was hired as a part-time cook on March 4. Bob Gladden was hired as a corrections officer and bailiff effective March 8.

•Met with Vanae Emerick of the Workforce Development Board.

•Heard from Faye Kyle of Ozark Township regarding missing road signs and a needing information on roads.

•Don Shelhammer of Raymondville also met with commissioners.

Members of the Texas County Commission met March 20-21. During the meetings, commissioners:

•Met with representatives of Christos House to sign proclamations for Denim Day and Sexual Violence Awareness Month. Executive director Moiria Seiber and LaDonna Blankenship met the commissioners.

•Heard from a representative of a firm that installed an energy savings system at county buildings. Jonathan Williams reported on savings seen since implementing the equipment.

•Held discussions with its attorney, Ivan Schraeder, via phone. Members also called the county’s insurance firm for discussions.

•Heard from Houston emergency management director Glen McKinney.

•Met with Walt Woodard, vice president of Cell Tower Solutions, to discuss its assessed valuations.
