Joyce “Evelyn” Rowen McCartney, 90, daughter of Ralph and Etta (Merckling) Rowen, was born Dec. 17, 1928, in Ohio, Kan. She passed away April 11, 2019, in Pacific, Mo.
Evelyn grew up in the Ellis Prairie, Mo., area. She and Dale Leo McCartney were married March 24, 1946, in Independence, Kan.; to this union 8 children were born.
Besides raising her family, Evelyn enjoyed gardening, crocheting, reading and helping with functions in and around the Raymondville and Houston, Mo., areas. She especially loved the times she played bingo with family and friends.
She worked nine years at Rawlings and worked as a waitress in St. Louis, Mo., before the family moved to Raymondville in 1966. Her husband, Dale, passed away in 1974. She earned her GED at age 52 years, an accomplishment of which she was very proud. She continued to live on the farm in Raymondville while raising the youngest five children. In 1998, she moved to Pacific, Mo., to live with her daughter, Anita, and spend time with her daughter, Joyce, as well.
She is survived by all eight children, Duane McCartney, Houston, Mo., Joyce (Jerry) England, Pacific, Mo., Gary (Joyce) McCartney, Troy, Mo., Anita (Leroy) Alcorn, Gray Summit, Mo., Nola (Steve) Cochran, Pacific, Mo., Mary (Jim) Odle, Willow Spring, Mo., Michael (Peggi) McCartney, Villa Ridge, Mo., and Danny (Wendy) McCartney, Canton, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; also one sister, Emma June Williams of Raymondville, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; six sisters, Nile Dorsey, Beulah Harris, Gladys (Mick) Smith, Darlene Erbschloe, Juanita (Francis) Jamison and Laura Park; and brothers: Jack Rowen, and Ira (Bud) Rowen.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at Evans Funeral Home, Houston, with the Rev James Darren Perkins officiating. Burial will be in Boone Creek Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Craig McCartney, Jason Alcorn, Joe Cochran, Nick Cochran, Brad Odle, Chad Odle, Corey McCartney, Kyle Holtgreven, Bryan McCartney and Zach McCartney.
Memorials are suggested to Boone Creek Cemetery.
